A Thought Over Coffee Posts

Set it in stone. Measure the results.

Goals. We talk about them, read about them, hear about them, avoid them, and loosely set them all the time. Sometimes, when we are lucky, we even reach those goals! But what if it didn’t have to be about luck all the time? I mean, let’s face it…. we are setting a goal to focus on something, right? Something that we have not be able to achieve on our own or without a set plan. Something we probably care about (or need to care about). Something that we need to focus some energy and attention to. In fact, Dictionary, com defines…

It wasn’t surprising. I had seen it before.

“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” —Eleanor Roosevelt. I am a dreamer. stubborn one at that. A visionary of sorts I guess. When I get something in my mind, it consumes me and I want to see it happen. I know it can be done. No matter how many steps I have to take to get there. I often wonder what other people are thinking about and feeling in their heads before their “huge thing” happens. What is the night before like? What is that thing they are visioning before they sleep? Are…

This Is Oklahoma: Jason Duncan

A few weeks ago, I had the chance to sit down and chat with Mike Hearne on his This Is Oklahoma podcast. This podcast is dedicated to telling the stories of the people of Oklahoma. This podcast is full of the stories of the people who embody the spirit of Oklahoma. Cycle 66 – A Ride Along The Mother Road

Cycle 66 is a new urban/rural bicycling tour along historic Route 66 and beyond. Beginning and ending in downtown Edmond, Cycle 66 offers three distinct routes for all experience levels and raises funds for worthy causes in our community. Over the past few years, I have been trying to get involved with as many boards and commissions as I can properly handle. I tend to go all in with this sort of work and spend lots of time with the responsibility but it is work that just makes me feel like I am a part of something bigger picture. I…

It Was A Sing (And Sip) Along: Carols + Cocktails

One of the things I liked best during my EVOKE Days were the events. I am going to give space on this blog for each event to have it’s time to shine but we did them as often as we thought we could pull them off. Sometimes. they became “annual” and those always were the best. Carols and Cocktails We dreamed up this evening that we could have our friend bring her guitar and get everyone together to sing, drink, and… well, be merry! The first time we did this was in 2017 and we invited our pal Sherree Chamberlain…

Take it. We’ll Just Come Back Stronger Than Ever.

I talk to a lot of people about EVOKE, it’s story, and why we did it. How did it all happen? What did I learn? What successes did I achieve along the way? What hard things did I overcome? What advice do I have? So many questions! Which, turns out, I really enjoy answering. There is one thing that I sometimes forget and, today, was thinking how relevant it was to what EVOKE ended up becoming. Looking back, it was a blip on the radar of the EVOKE journey – maybe not even a chapter. But, at the time, it…

Steady. Easy. Steady…Bags.

This post can be filed away in the “things that bring joy” portion of what I promised to write about here on this blog, online magazine, or rant machine – however you wish to see it. (You do see it, right??) That joy normally centers around my wife and kids, two pups, coffee, friends, and nearly always……the outdoors either on a bike, hike, trail run, or camp trip. This time?? Bags. I think it is safe to say that I have a bag problem. A lust. I can’t get enough great bags and I’m sure there is some sort of…

It Was Free: And it Happened Every Monday

Lots of coffee flowed through our shared studio space in the Plaza District during those early days. The T-Shirt Mafia showed up. Business owners showed up. Friends old and new showed up. It was just a time to hang, sip, and shoot the shit really. I honestly can’t remember why we started this thing or how we came up with the idea but it stuck and for a decently long season, was a weekly community buzz event that was seeing 50-100 people show up. Crazy. What was it? Free Coffee Monday. I know I know… creative. It was – I…

EVOKE: District Dreams

When my wife Jenni and I first drove through Downtown Edmond in early 2011 on the recommendation from a great family friend (and future landlord), we were a bit surprised by what we found. Not in a “this place is happening and we don’t want to leave” sort of way but a “this place has ALL the potential to be the next great district in the metro” sort of way. Yes, we said something out loud that had been way out of our minds the three years prior. Something that I never thought I’d give real entertainment to. That Edmond…
